Rev. Candis Burgess

Rev. Candis was called as rector of St. Paul’s, Monroe in May 2023. Her aim is that our parish will nurture, serve, and grow together in friendship, fellowship, and the love of Christ. She has been canonically resident in the Diocese of North Carolina for 18 years, has been a priest since 1997, and formerly served as a Hospice Chaplain. Prior to ordination, Rev. Candis worked in politics, finance, community service, administration, and in the nonprofit sector. She earned her B.A. and M.Div. at Sewanee, The University of the South.

Rev. Candis believes passionately that the mission of the Church is to restore all people to unity with God and each other in Christ (The Book of Common Prayer, page 855), and sees the continued direction of St. Paul’s to be a welcoming place in the midst of downtown, engaging deeply with our neighbors and the surrounding community with an expansive mission of inclusion. She believes that we are called to draw out and listen with purpose to those whom we invite and those who are drawn to St. Paul’s.
