Music indeed is the knowledge of apt modulation. If we live virtuously, we are constantly proved to be under its discipline, but when we sin, we are without music.
— Cassiodorus, secretary to the Roman emperor Theodoric in the 500's

Welcome to St. Paul's! We hope that if you enjoy singing or playing an instrument, you will join us in our weekly praise and worship of the Lord. Below you will find information about music activities at St. Paul's.

If you have further questions, please speak with organist and choir director Kathleen Prevost after the 10:30am service, or call the church at (704) 289-8434.

MONTHLY SHAPE NOTES

St. Paul’s Episcopal Church hosts a monthly Shape Note sing at 12:30 p.m. every 4th Sunday of each month in the Parish Hall at 116 South Church Street. Park by the playground and come to the Parish Hall.

Shape Notes are an old-fashioned way of notating music, but you don't need to know them in order to sing the hymns.  The 4-part harmonies are beautiful and a great way to help kids learn to sing in parts.

We have a number of Sacred Harp 1991 edition hymnals, but feel free to bring your own (available here along with more information about Shape Note singing: http://originalsacredharp.com/).  Please spread the word and invite your friends, and, if you like, bring some finger food to share.  Contact Kathleen Prevost at rkprevost@gmail.com with questions.  Hope to see you there!
